Shopify Price Backup Checker

Paste the header row of your product export. This tells you whether that file could actually put your prices back.

Your export header

Open the file, copy the top row, paste it here. Do not paste any product rows: they are not needed and nothing is uploaded either way.

To make one: Shopify admin, Products, Export, then All products and Plain CSV file. Do it before you run the sale, not after.

Verdict

This file can restore the price, but it will lose something on the way.

ColumnIn your fileWhy it matters
Handle
Required
PresentThe only thing that ties a row back to a product on re-import.
Variant Price
Required
PresentThe number you are about to overwrite. Without it there is nothing to restore.
Variant Compare At Price
Strongly advised
MissingRestoring price without this wipes every strikethrough in the store, permanently.
Option1 Value
Strongly advised
PresentIdentifies which variant a row is. Without it, multi-variant products restore onto the wrong rows.
Variant SKU
Strongly advised
PresentA second way to match a row when option values have been edited since.
Option2 Value
Optional
MissingNeeded only if your products have a second option, such as size and colour.
Option3 Value
Optional
MissingNeeded only if your products have three options.
Title
Optional
PresentNot used by the restore, but it makes the file readable when you are checking it by hand.

Compare-at price is the column people forget. A backup without it restores every sale price correctly and quietly deletes every strikethrough in the store at the same time, which is a second outage caused by the fix for the first one.
